FAQ
Below are some frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions that are not featured below please send Alvaro an email.
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
It depends. But yes, it usually is uncomfortable. The level of pain you experience depends on the location and size of your tattoo as well as your own level of pain tolerance. All of these factors will contribute to how much pain you experience. If this is a concern for you, you may want to consider using a numbing cream before coming in for your tattoo. However, as a heads up, the numbing cream effects won’t last for the entire tattoo session and you will be unable to reapply once your tattoo has started.
Are tattoos really permanent?
Tattoos are permanent. However, the way your tattoo heals is up to you - partially. The ink can fade due to the following reasons: time, the area is often exposed to the sun, the skin is very thin or the tattoo is in an area that experiences lots of friction, (ie, hands, feet, elbow, etc.) and not following proper after care procedures.
How safe is getting a tattoo?
Getting a tattoo is relatively safe given that it is completed in a reputable shop under sanitary conditions, and following proper sterilization procedures. Your tattoo artist should also follow proper PPE procedures such as wearing gloves and masks, and using disposable machine wraps and needles. A good tattoo artist should be able explain the procedure and demonstrate what to expect without making you feel like you’re asking too many questions. Alvaro only uses sterile, single-use, disposable needles and applies proper barriers to protect you and his equipment. You can rest assured he puts your safety first.
I can’t decide what I want! Any ideas?
If you’re not sure what you want, it’s probably best you take your time and think about it before coming in. Please remember that tattoos are permanent! It’s not a great feeling regretting any work you get done. If you have a “You Only Live Once” attitude and just want some awesome work done, Alvaro would love to work with you to come up with an incredible piece of art just for you.
What should I consider when designing my tattoo?
Now that you’ve decided you want to get some ink, will it work as a tattoo? Here are some things to consider when coming up with your ideas:
1) How big or small is the piece going to be? (Alvaro prefers centimetres or inches as units of measurements i.e. 10cm x 15cm or 4’’ x 6’’)
2) Is the size appropriate for the body part of your choosing?
3) What type of tattoo style would you like done? (American Traditional, Japanese, Realism, etc.)
4) Does the design need a lot of custom work?
5) Is the artist you’re going to capable or known for that type of work?
6) Would you like any colour in your tattoo?
7) How visible will it be when fully clothed?
8) Will this be a stand alone piece or will you be adding to it later?
9) Will the design and level of detail work on the placement on your body?
10) Is this something you really want to get done?
How much does it cost?
Alvaro charges by the hour with a one-hour minimum of $120. Your final cost will depend on the total time required to complete your tattoo. A non-refundable deposit must be made to book an appointment. Alvaro only accepts cash or e-transfer. Email Alvaro to get an estimate.
Do I need a design consultation appointment?
For any small and medium-sized tattoos, a 15-minute consultation could be arranged. If the idea is simple enough, Alvaro can draw your idea the day of your appointment. For larger and more complex tattoos (like sleeves, half sleeves, back pieces, etc.) Alvaro will require that you book a separate Design Consultation appointment first. This will allow you and Alvaro time to talk through your ideas and answer any questions you may have before coming in for your tattoo appointment.
Can I get a tattoo over a scar/stretch mark?
It depends on a few factors such as the size, type, and age of the scar or stretch mark. Some scars may not be able to be tattooed over for various reasons, but we can draw attention away from them by incorporating a design around your scar.
What should I do to prep for my appointment?
Like any other day, try to get your 8 hours of sleep. You should be well rested for a long day of tattooing. Getting a tattoo done requires that your tattoo artist is in close contact with you for many hours so please take a shower. Arriving well fed and hydrated will help you cope with the discomfort so please remember to eat something before your session, and bring water with you to your appointment. An empty stomach and dehydration may cause nausea and dizziness and cause you to have to reschedule, losing your appointment. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment and remember, it’s going to be a great experience!
What should I wear for my tattoo appointment?
You should wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting some ink on. If you’re getting a foot and/or ankle tattoo, be prepared with proper foot wear.
What if I’m late for my appointment or I need to cancel?
If you’re running late, send a message to Alvaro via email or Instagram so he is aware of your situation. If you need to change your appointment or cancel, 48 hours notice is required. If you do not message Alvaro at all and miss your appointment, you will lose your deposit and/or the ability to work with Alvaro in the future.
What is Alvaro’s refund policy?
Gift cards, consultation services, tattoo services, and deposits are non-refundable.
